I had a cat that I got from the humane society. I always get my new pets from there if possible. He ended up being the devil re-incarnated! He wrecked the screens in our apartment. He chewed through many power cords and fish tank cords and lived. He chewed through the air-supply for the fish and nearly killed them. He clawed the couch even though he had multiple scratching posts, pads and toys. He was very distructive. Unfortunately my husband had to take it back to the Humane Society since the Apartments had established a no cat rule two weeks later. They told him that it was an outside cat, but they told me when i got him that he was an inside cat. hmmm.

If you do decide to get a fish, get a Betta! Or a goldfish. Betta are pretty, but goldfish are often a little hardier and not as “needy” as far as water temperature goes. Also, goldfish tend to beg more for food, haha. Though Bettas can be quite feisty – I have one that flares his fins and gills (display of aggression) whenever I get too close to his tank. ;)
