Last night we stopped off to see Valkyrie finally. Ryan had wanted to see it much more than I did and I was happy that we managed to see it at last. It was a pretty good movie and Tom Cruise was surprisingly good in his role as a German officer in Hitler’s army. But since I plan to review that soon, I will not mention anything more except to urge you to see it as well.
Cole Learns a Life Lesson
AKA We have an ice maker
Apparently, there is an ice maker in the freezer. In hindsight, that explains what the big boxy thing is. However, it had been turned off since we moved in and there was no tray beneath it so I never gave it much thought. Plus, I’ve never had an ice maker so how should I know?
Well, we must have bumped the lever which turns it on when we were putting away groceries because it started making ice. It wasn’t a big deal, we just tossed it in the sink. Except, today I opened the freezer and out fell a shitload of ice. So I scrambled to grab a cardboard box because it was the only thing I had and shoveled ice into it.
The box was nearly full by the time I finished and my hands were sore and cold. I dumped the ice outside and called the office who directed me how to turn this off. I know this is funny. I know it would have made for good TV. I also know it made for sore hands and it was ridiculously surreal.
Lastly, I know it will entertain you. So, there. Be entertained.
A Tale of Two Kitties
Phantom and Goliath
Well, Puck had a name change to Goliath because I just wasn’t sure Puck fit. I am not totally feeling Goliath yet, either so I just call him Little One. I wasn’t so sure about him at first, mostly because it was a quick decision and Ryan picked him out – funny that the non-cat person picked out both of our cats. But Goliath has grown on me.
I think first he liked Phantom more and Phantom wasn’t really sure. They both were very similar when we got them, very courageous and fearless. They did/do a lot of silly things which made them adorable and they both had a lot of personality.
We took Goliath home right away and they’re an adorable pair. He’s only about 3 months old which is the same age we got Phantom and, although he’s only a few months older, he seems so big in comparison! So Phantom has become my big boy, even though he’s still just a kitten himself.
They fought a bit the first night and now it’s more playful and settled down. Phantom certainly seems to have let up on more of his playful characteristics and I hope it’s only temporary. He was definitely a little indifferent toward us but now seems to be coming back around to his old self.
We had really been considering a seocnd cat so we would have one to balance out Phantom. We hoped a playmate would make him stay out of trouble (the tree, trash, counter tops, so on and so forth) a well as give him someone else to pick on. He’s only bitten me once since we got Goliath and that was because I intervened when they were fighting.
On the other hand, having another kitten means going through all the same things we did with Phantom. The goods new is that Goliath seems to listen a bit more and not be as naturally wild so I don’t think we will have a hard of time with it. Of course, he does like to walk over the laptop quite a bit, much to Ryan’s dismay. d=
Guess What?
We got a second cat. A black one, male, about 3 months old. Adorable. I think we’re calling him Puck (like the trickster).
And happy New Year!
The truth is..
I love Christmas. I love music and while I prefer the classics like “Winter Wonderland” and “White Christmas” performed in their classic way by almost anyone (Elvis, Reba, Alan Jackson, and Eurythmics are a few I love), I also love newer jingles and artists like Sarah Mclachlan, Trans-Siberian Orchestra and Shedaisy who put their own original spin on them. Of course, I love to sing along.
I love Christmas movies, especially all the clay-mation ones. Santa Claus is Coming to Town and Rudolph the Rednose Reindeer are probably my favourites but I also love Home Alone.
I love to decorate and given the resources (time, money, perfect decorations and a house which is suitable) I would probably be one of those people who lights up the entire neighbourhood. I love to put up a tree and there isn’t anything like the real thing.
I love the big meal including ham and potatoes. I love seeing family and friends even if it means drama. I love the hustle and bustle and even like Christmas shopping – when I have money – no matter how frustrating.
I love gift giving and gift opening, even if it’s something silly. I still hang stockings (although ours hang empty tonight) and if I ever have children, I will tell them about Santa Claus. Last night I tracked him via Norad until 3 in the morning (and he wasn’t even done!)
While I do not consider myself a religious person, the holiday season makes me feel “closer to God” and everything around me seems to sparkle. Of course, if there actually is snow sparkling aruond me, that is a plus.
But it’s so easy to go through the motions of Christmas and not take any joy from it. It’s easy to forget what it’s about, even if it’s only about gifts to you but, hey!, those are as good a reason as any in my opinion.
I had been so disappointed in Christmas this year. It wasn’t feeling like Christmas and this made me frustrated ans sad. I know I’m not the only one but I wanted to be in the Christmas spirit so bad I was doing myself a disservice.
I feel a better today even though things aren’t perfect. I guess I forgot that Christmas is more than just a sum of its parts. Its something else entirely and while it might be extra special if everything comes together perfectly, it’s not unspecial just because it doesn’t.
So, with that, Merry Christmas! I hope you got what you want and – if you didn’t – I hope that’s okay, too.
