Say Cheese!

My new kitten, Phantom.

If you have been following me anywhere else online, then you have probably noticed I am the mommy of a new kitten named Phantom. Ryan and I went looking on Monday, put down a payment and decided to go back Tuesday. He is a 2 month old Russian blue with gorgeous eyes and too much energy for his own good (or ours!). He is a little naughty but also very sweet and grew on us very quickly, even Ryan who doesn’t like cats. I think this is a new page in his book!

I have also uploaded photos from our trip to Lake Towada as well as photos of my bedroom and our new car at my Flickr account and I will very quickly be bringing them over here. There are some great shots of waterfalls and the natural sights Japan has to offer.

It took me a little longer than usual to upload photos because my USB cord was being shipped and I didn’t want to upload onto the laptop (probably a good idea because Ryan has not broken it) but I am really pleased with some of the shots I got.

I will definitely be taking lots of pictures of my little menace precious darling, and not just with my camera – although the pictures from it are not horrible.

I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.

Hangin’ Around

Ive been hanging around this town on a corner
Ive been bummin around this old town for way too long
Ive been hanging around this town on a corner
Ive been bummin around this old town for way too long

Really, relaxation hasn’t been key these past few days. Friday we finally moved into our apartment, after I finished a paper for my psychology class and submitted it to my teacher. both things provided a bit of excitement for me. Of course, I had been waiting quite impatiently to move and it seemed like the day would never come but it finally has! I also shared some of those same feelings when it came to going back to school but I am no longer not doing anything with my life! yay!

Really, we didn’t have that many belongings to move in so after planting my luggage down, I continued to read. I recently finished The Shadow Rising by Robert Jordan so I have begun to reread The Death Gate Cycle by Weis/Hickman. I’d forgotten how fast reading those books were (and short compared to the Robert Jordan books) and I’m really glad that I enjoy them as I did when I first read them in high school.

Sunday introduced the presence of our brand new bedroom set which is still gorgeous and I will be enjoying for many years to come. Unfortunately, lack of mattresses has been a bit of an issue so we’re still using the air mattress until tomorrow night.

Yesterday left me exhausted and sore after unpacking most of our stuff that was delivered. Save for a few boxes I still need to go through, the only thing left packed are things were don’t yet have space for. I have a neat little idea for furniture that will really make the dinging room wall more useful for us. I definitely need more drawers because the kitchen doesn’t have nearly enough.

Today wasn’t much better when it comes to exhaustion. I put together our desk without instructions, from memory; I called and requested them but didn’t find them in my e-mail until well after I was done. with a little logical guessing, I think I did a decent job. Ryan was quite surprised, I believe “awed” was the word he used for my workmanship. Hehe.

But today was also a blessing as cable, phone and internet were installed all relatively quickly and without hassle even if we do have a big cable box and the workers didn’t come until 2 hours after they told us. I’m grateful to be back online even if I still have to deal with the laptop for a couple more days.

Thursday, when our unaccompanied baggage arrives, will be the last shipment and we will definitely be able to relax and enjoy our home. It’s not quite as nice as I remember it from viewing but it certainly beats out other apartments we saw and it’s really shaping up as we add furniture. After the staples are taken care of, I can’t wait to tackle the decor; I definitely have some ideas!

I love how large my bathroom is and all the storage space in there. It’s been too long since I actually had drawers and counter space but the shelving is really the icing on the cake! Plus, 2 closets in the main room as well as a walk in bedroom closet are something I didn’t find in any other apartments we looked at and I knew we’d need a lot of storage space because we had 4 closets and an extra bedroom in Misawa.

Things are really going to quiet down soon and I’m not sure if I’ll be relieved or disappointed. I guess you’ll have to hang around. ;)

The Bare Necessities

So Ryan thinks my blog sucks these days or something. Whatever. d= I do think it’s suffered a bit from me being busy with some others projects, some of which are more secretive than others.

The moving stuff has also kept me busy periodically. I am not officially living in a stuff-less apartment – no furniture (we invested in an air mattress), no dishes, no computer, no good fan, no TV (and no DVDS to go with it). Needless to say, I’m pretty bored.

I can only spend so much time on the laptop. A) because it sucks. B) Because it’s uncomfortable to use and C) because I don’t have my stuff on here I can only do a little shallow e-mail checking and web surfing – nothing that I get really busy with.

I’ve been playing a lot more DS – I got back into Nintendogs. I also just finished a book and have a few more to keep me busy. It’s not enough though. Luckily, this is only for a few days until we go to the inn which will at least have a DVD player (and furniture!) to keep us busy. It’s also within walking distance to pretty much everything on base and most things right off base, too.

The getting ready was a little frustrating. My sleeping schedule is not conducive to happy days. I had been up for some time when the movers showed up around 8:30 – although I swear the guy said some time between 11 and 3 – and they only took about 2 and a half hours to wrap everything and move it to the truck. It was definitely fast but, then, I suppose it is their job!

Unfortunately, some things were packed that I didn’t intend to be (plastic silverware, duh!) and that shouldn’t have been (we were told no spices so I put them aside but they packed them anyway) and some things didn’t make the cut (most cleaning things). One of the thing I hate about moving is that you seem to have to throw away so much perfectly useful stuff because it doesn’t necessarily pay to move it and it may not be expensive or hard to replace but I still hate getting rid of stuff I paid for. I like to use things up to the last drop.

That’s all for now folks.

Let the good times roll

Actually, that’s kind of a weird phrase.

Anyway, here I am writing to you, dear world, at the ripe old age of 22. I’m not entirely sure I feel any different nor am I sure that I don’t feel different. I do feel a bit nostalgic and regretful as this year many of my friends from school have graduated college or, at least, the first portion of their post-secondary education. I admit that I am jealous but hope to catch up with when I am able to and things are looking good that I may be able to do that this fall once we are back in the states.

I feel as though I am counting unhatched chicks by saying this as many things are unsure yet but I can say with good authority we will be relocated to a base in San Antonio. It wasn’t my first pick, or his, but it will be something new and better than where we are for sure.

Back to the birthday subject, I had a pretty good time. I went bowling Friday night with friends. It was a very casual celebration with no expectations and I think perhaps that is what made it go off so well. Often, high expectations about birthdays often resulted in a very disappointed Cole. We followed up bowling by heading back to a friend’s house and playing board games.

Saturday, my birthday, Ryan and I went out to eat at a restaurant he did not remember liking. I remember loving the corn soup. Surprisingly, he enjoyed it even more than I did, I think. He believes they have a larger selection now which may be the case. I don’t know. Ryan even bugged me to go again today but my craving for Chinese had been satisfied.

After dinner we picked up pre-sale vouchers to be able to see Iron Man. On Monday we’d gone down to see it but hadn’t realized they were preselling and we weren’t able to. Because it was a holiday, nothing else was open. Gah!

Luckily, we got out vouchers, headed home for a minute and returned just in time to get in line. Most of the theatre was already packed by the time we got in there and I was seriously worried that we wouldn’t be able to find seats together but we did.

We both liked the movie quite a bit. It was fast moving, exciting and funny in many places. The background music reminded me a lot of the music that was used in Transformers.

We weren’t the only ones who liked it as, I’m sure most of you know. People were there who had already seen it once or twice and as we were leaving, people were discussing going back to see it tonight! But I didn’t like it enough to try to deal with our ghetto as movie theatre. Right now there’s doing construction so only 1/2 of the seating is available. As we were leaving last night, I saw 2 folding chairs that must have been set up for customers who could not find any place to sit in the theatre! How awful!

By the time we left the movie, by birthday was finished. I was rather pleased. I’ll need to do this again in another 365 days. Thanks to everyone who sent wishes!

Hello Hello

hearing: Lennon(music) and the wind
feeling: dirty

Just a little update. I know it’s been a while. I started reading Eragon as an illegal e-book a while ago. I figured it looked interesting and the movie looks decent, too, so it was a place to start.

While browsing through gobs and gobs of illegal e-books I took the time to download quite a few more, including much of the Narnia series. I remember reading The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe in elementary school but I’m not entirely sure we finished it. As it is a classic, I figure it doesn’t hurt to read.

We went to look for furry rodent type things at the petshop at the mall off base but they didn’t have anything so I might just find an old warehouse and steal a rat. Kidding, about that but I was a little disappointed.

We did, however, get this cute Nightmare Before Christmas clock. It’s an analog clock with Jack and Sally figures “behind” it and there legs move like a pendulum, or they would if I knew how to make them work. -l- I think I’ll make Rian take a picture so that I can show the world.

We’re slowly adding domestic type things to the place. I think that after I start working, I’ll start adding “womanly” decorative touches as the place is pretty bare as it is. That’s okay for now but, in the long run, I’ll want to spruce it up.

The weather has been rather crappy lately. It’s either drizzling rain or blowing insanely and while I don’t much mind the rain, when I hear the wind outside it makes it feel like the world is extremely desolate and lonely and makes my mood a little more blah than it otherwise might be.

I’ve been posting at forums more as of late so why don’t you waste some time with me, too? At all of these I go as anaesthetic.
