For all the things you gave to me

Thank you for always making me feel beautiful, like it was never a competition and even when I didn’t feel beautiful myself. Somehow, you always made me feel like, when you looked at me, you saw something I would like in the mirror.

And thank you for always respecting my space, my privacy, my anxiety. Thank you for never taking it personally when I needed alone time but, even more..

Thank you for knowing when what I truly needed wasn’t what I thought I wanted. You ignored those arbitrary rules when they weren’t helping me. You made our into a hugging friendship and because of that, I had someone to hug when I really needed it.

I appreciate that you were one of the best friends that I ever had during one of the most difficult times of my life. You never asked for anyone in return, and you never judged the decisions I made, even when they were wrong. Yet, you were always there to listen to my heart’s cries.

Thank you for dinners and movies and drinks and video games and countless minutes spent watching YouTube videos.

Thank you for the late-night phone calls, for putting up with cat pictures and my silly jokes, for loving every dorky part of me. For cuddles when I needed them the most and showing up at my door at midnight to wipe away the tears.

You’ll never know how much I appreciate your easy way, your requests for confirmation, even though we both know I absolutely did want you to continue.

Thank you for honoring my strange requests without judgment and for pushing me far enough to fully be myself.

I am forever grateful for you, the safest place I’ve ever known in my life.

You Learn A Lot About Your Friends..

..when the cops show up at your door.

So, last night I had went to bed sometime between 5 and 6 PM. I had been up for 24 hours, so I hit the hay after my best friend left. I wasn’t asleep for more than an hour when someone began banging on my window. I figured it was some drunk asshole who was locked out. I am not the doorman, so I was going to yell at him through the window when he identified him as Wausau PD and asked if I could open the door, which I did.

Upon opening the door, I saw a young officer who didn’t look all that different from Glenn from The Walking Dead. As I am letting him in, he asks for apartment number 2. That’s me, and I am thoroughly perplexed and not quite awake. He tells me to get my keys and step outside. I do and I inquire as to WTF is going on. Two other cops come around, and the whole lot of them was really quite good looking.

Office Glenn-from-the-walking-dead tells me that they got a call from a woman whose niece, Brenda, called her saying that her mom was going to hurt herself. Obviously, this doesn’t pertain to me.  They asked to see my apartment, and I showed them. It was all over in less than 5 minutes and they were leaving.

It had disturbed my sleep, though, I just had to tell everyone. The story only gets better based on the replies that I received from my friends.

  • One friend said I should have told the hot cops I was hiding drugs “but you have to find them” to get frisked.
  • Another thought that the story was leading to stripping cops
  • A third said at least I got a good story about it

I mean, it’s true. It’s an interesting story. Weird enough to blog  about. Sadly, there was no stripping or frisking. But here’s a photo of Channing Tatum.

Also, yesterday was Suicide Prevention Day, so I really hope that Brenda’s mom is okay.

In Which Cole Lists Life Stuff

Sorry for the ads the last few days. It was an easy way to make a few bucks, but I thought I did okay tying it into my life, even if it wasn’t tied into my life at present.

So I shall make a list type thing of stuff that is going on in my life. Feel free to not care. ;)

  • Look at this fuzzy shoe

    Look at this fuzzy shoe

I broke a nail and tried the bond-it-with-a-coffee-filter technique I’ve heard about. It’s been a weak and 3 applications later, but it seems to work. I just have to hope that I don’t get it caught or stuck on something before it has a bit of time to grow out.

  • Phantom is being a crazy whiny baby who is pawing at doors and walls and furniture for no good reason. It doesn’t help me sleep.
  • Last night I had games and drinks with friends at my place after enjoying a really good burger at a nice bar with a cute bartender.  I woke up needing pain killers, hydration and a shower, but it was really good times.
  • The last two points have contributed to me not getting nearly enough sleep lately. My eyes hurt ,but my schedule is so dumb that I cannot allow myself to sleep as long as I’d like to feel fully rested. Right now, I’m getting up nearly at sunset. I need to reset this thing. Ugh.
  • Some good friends are in the area for a while. The reason for their visit/stay isn’t good, but getting to see them is.
  • One of my best friends in the world signed a lease in my building, and I am so freaking excited about this!
  • I got my electric bill for last month, and it’s so cheap! It went down $10 despite me using my window AC. I think this is because my old refrigerator died, and I got a newer one. I cannot complain either way.
  • Although I didn’t have my laptop for over a week because the DC jack broke off inside it, I have it back now. I missed my baby immensely. It’s such a good machine — really.
  • I’ve got two really exciting events I’m going to attend coming up: a Pat Benatar concert and the Blues Brothers Revue.
  • I’m planning on buying an SSHD to replace the HDD in my laptop. I are excited!
  • I recently rooted my phone. I haven’t done as much with it as I plan, but I did it myself and it’s already performing a little better in terms of memory usage.
  • I was a little bummed that the shoes I only had for a month and a half wore out, but I found a new pair that’s super cute and cheap. Said shoes are in the picture to the right, but Goliath is definitely more important!
  • I will still need to move to a new host eventually, but I’ve got a bit more time to do it now.
  • Store are full of Halloween stuff! I cannot wait to get shopping and decorating!!
  • I’ve actually been writing poetry again.
  • I have some really cool giveaways and reviews going on/coming up on Reviews by Cole.
  • I got my hair cut and dyed. The cut is similar to what I had last time, but it’s mostly black with some red. Quite different. I like it more every day, though.

I keep thinking of more things to add. This short blog is longer than I expected. I shall cut it off here!

The Best Moments from Wizard World Chicago #wwchicago

Wolverine and Hawkman

Wolverine and Hawkman

1. Wolverine takes off his clothes

There was a fantastic cosplayer as Wolverine/Logan. I snapped a few pictures earlier in the day, but it wasn’t until the costume contest that he really got my attention. As he walked on stage, the cosplayer took off his leather jacket. This guy obviously hits the gym. The crowd applauded.

Then, he took off his wife beater. Now, some people may describe it as the sound of thunderous applause, but I’m pretty sure what followed was the sound and crashing of 500 pairs of panties hitting the floor. I was sitting toward the back half of the room and I could see his clearly-developed abs. It made me drool. Until that very moment, I had no idea that I was into Wolverine.

He picked up his things and began to leave the stage, but the MC made a joke about his abs being painted on. Wolverine returned and threatened him with his claws. The crowd went fucking wild.

2. Alan Tudyk speaking in his King Candy Voice

Now, I was excited for the Firefly panel, but my favorite thing had nothing to do with the show at all. I was previously unaware that Alan played the voice of King Candy in Wreck-It Ralph, which was a sweet and funny movie that you should see if you haven’t already. King Candy is an over-the-top character and his lispy voice is perfect for the image. I can’t find an actual clip of if online — thank you Disney — but Youtube is full of impressions if you want to hear.

Anyway, a fan asked Alan to say something in his voice, and he obliged. He explained how he had played a racist character in the recent movie 42, and decided to say one of his lines, which happened to be along the lines of “Say Jackie, how many of these players’ wives have you crawled on?” It was entirely inappropriate but absolutely hilarious!

3. Wil Wheaton responds to Robyn’s question with a quote from George R.R. Martin

Wil Wheaton plays a jerk, but if you read his blog or listen to him talk, he realize that he’s a nice guy. He’s the nerd’s nerd. He represents the culture as a whole, and the way he talks about community is heart-warming. I remembering feeling all teary-eyed while he spoke. If you’ve seen this video, then you’ve got a good idea what Wil’s all about.

If that wasn’t good enough, Robyn had the chance to ask his a question, and it was about his favorite strong female characters. He started to list them off at first, but then he changed tactics. Robyn didn’t like it, but I loved it! Rather than name characters, he said he didn’t feel it was fair to answer that question based on gender. My inner feminist regaled.

But. then. he quoted George R.R. Martin. I don’t know and can’t find the exact quote, and Wil might not even have been dead on but it went something like this:

I like to write women as though they are people.

The crowd went wild. I fell in love. The end.

4. Michael Rosenbaum molests Robyn

You might know him better as the actor who played Lex in Smallville. Robyn, the friend with whom I traveled to Chicago, loves the show and the actor. She had her picture taken with the cast, and she went to all of their panels. His panel happened to still be going on when I got out of SciFi Speed Dating, which is the most forgettable thing I’ve done in a long time.

So I find Robyn’s panel room and I look for Robyn. I cannot spot her, but then I look up toward the center of the room where Michael is, and I see him pawing all over Robyn as he responds to her comment about how the show just wasn’t as good when he left. Later, Robyn told me that he’d queued her question but forgot about her. If he hadn’t, I wouldn’t have walked in at the very right time!

5. A biker dances in the street

Traffic was horrible, especially if you’re not from a big city. There were a lot of times when we could’ve turned off the engine and got out of the car for a stretch. We didn’t, but one biker did. Traffic was at a standstill under an overpass, and he was riding next to a younger biker. The older one, who was all clad in leather and had a big Santa beard, was listening to some classic rock. I’m thinking something like the Rolling Stones. He may even have said something about how rap sucked. I don’t recall exactly.

What I do remember, however, is him getting off of his bike and twirling his arms in a disco-like dance as traffic waited impatiently for the holdup to finish. It made me smile, but it was over too quickly for me to get out my camera.

So, there you have it. These are the top 5 moments. There were other awesome moments — check out my Facebook album here — and everything was enjoyable and exciting overall, but these stood out the most.
