Phantom’s Box
July 26th, 2011 Posted 5:04 am
According to “The Internet,” you should include photos in your blog, possibly at least one photo in each post. Now, that sort of seems like overkill to me but you know I’m all about the words (AKA I’m a wordy bitch) but I figured it couldn’t hurt to improve your day with some cat shots. After all, my friends looove when I send all sorts of cat images to their phones!

So, this is Phantom’s box. I call it Phantom’s box because Phantom loves it. I’m so creative, I know!
Phantom’s box originally contained a shipment of Pure Romance goodies for review. The packaging was pretty and smart, consisting of crimped strips of paper and tissue paper. I temporarily left the box on the floor and, before I knew it, Phantom decided it was his bed. When I’d go to bed, he’d come into the room and crawl into his, a tiny ball surrounded by pink.
It remained Phantom–and only Phantom’s–bed for a while until Goliath discovered it. Then it became sort of warped, the sides flexing outward at the weight of his bulk. Goliath will sometimes sleep next to the box when Phantom is in it or they’ll have a licking-turned-fighting moment where Goliath will take over the box.
Phantom hasn’t been in his box as much lately. He likes my new bedding but, last night, I woke up and he was there again so I think I’ll keep it around.
Phantom is a Freak

So, if you have cats, they probably like to drink from tubs and sinks and puddles and God-knows-where-else even if the water dish is overflowing. I even have a friend whose cat will only drink straight from the tap so she keeps it dripping all the time.
Thus, I wasn’t surprised when I pulled back the shower curtain to see Phantom come waltzing up. I figured he was there to drink the tub water (eww, anyway). I was toweling myself off in the tub, as I like to do my dripping there and not on the rug when I feeel…
liiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiccccccccccccccccccccccckkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk
On my thigh. Shower and a bath. Thanks!

In true little brother fashion, Goliath takes after his big brother. Phantom has always slept in certain spots, usually right up against the wall. Goliath now does, too. Phantom started sleeping on top of the TV a few weeks ago; now Goliath tries to join.. but usually falls off because Phantom is the small, graceful one and Goliath is just big and awkward. Phantom used to live on top of the fridge a while back, until Goliath took it over. I think it’s cute but I’m pretty sure Lil P isn’t quite so thrilled. He always has to find new spots but sometimes I still find them curled up together and get a picture like this one:

Oh, hi

Still here? Me, too. Just counting down the days until I can see my husband. I haven’t mentioned much because, in some ways, the coming of the end almost came upon me suddenly. Not that I want to put it off. I’m so over this deployment crap.
And the being alone crap but I had a bit of a reprieve when Jenn and I (and Matthew!) had lunch at TFI Fridays on Sunday. We also stopped at Petsmart, oohed and aahed over the kitties and I finally got something to keep the kitty food in. Phantom has yet to figure out how to chew through/open the container. ;)
Also, Phantom how has his own Twitter account. >_>
It’s a cat.. burglar

So I went to get the mail a bit before 11 and as I’m unlocking the door to come back inside, I hear something inside the bedroom. It’s really loud. Loud enough that I actually pause to think “Did I leave the door unlocked? Am I being burgled?” So I open the door and nothing. No one. I turn on the bedroom light to see Goliath standing on one nightstand; the lamp and alarm clock are knocked over on the other and I assume Phantom was someplace under the bed. I don’t know what they were doing but as they say.. the cats will play. ;)
It’s not that I don’t appreciate the little things

It’s just that everything is fucking pissing me off lately.
Yesterday the A/C stopped working. I think it took me a while to notice and by that time, night had fallen. No biggie. It wasn’t super hot so I i turned on the fan in the bedroom when I hit the hay and it was actually a really comfortable night. I call the office this morning and someone comes out around noon. Apparently, the big ol’ A/C compressor outside was out of freon so it froze over. Maintenance popped open the panel on our wall and I see a 1 inch thick – at least – chunk of ice the size of our air filter and right behind it. Everything needs to thaw so he returns in an hour, replaces the filter and fixes up the freon outside.
I know it’s not the end of the world but don’t you think that is something to keep your eye on before your tenants have to call you?!
On another, sort of good note.. Phantom will be fixed on Wednesday. It’s only a week after they originally said. I only had to call them a dozen times and leave two messages before someone called me. back. Only. Ugh
I cannot wait until he stops the meowing, the aggression, the spraying and everything else. I want to love my cat again!
Surprise!

Not the good kind like “I found $20 in my winter coat pocket” but the “Oh, shit! The condom broke type.”
Despite the fact that we were told. Despite the fact that we should not have taken him home otherwise. Despite the fact that the adoption center was billed for it..
Phantom is not fixed.
In hindsight, this explains everything (the aggression and yowling). It also means there will be an end to the sleepless nights. However, I now get to deal with the spraying because he’s gone into heat so the damage is already done. Luckily, it seems the adoption center will take care of it Tuesday/Wednesday but this is totally crappy in the meantime. I hate locking him in the bathroom at night but what else can I do?
I look forward to having my sweet, quiet, non-abuse kitty baby back.
