One Down

And only one to go! I redid the quiz that tells you which of my pets you are so go take it! There’s only one left and I promise to get to that much sooner. Also, I fixed a bunch of broken images on the blog.

What’s Going On

On my review blog, I touched on the frustrations I was experiencing because of my previous host (Neureal/EMC) and while it was only bothersome at that point, it has now become simply unacceptable.

In the last week, a few people noticed that my site was not loading and I contacted them. There was some strange error but it was fixed within a day at most. However, my site and e-mail were down, once again, several days ago. Upon contacting them I was told (again) that the control panel software was no longer supported by the creator and, now, there was some sort of corruption which made files on that server inaccessible.

Since then they have been “working” on it. I gave them some time but already knew I would be looking for a new host and I began my hunt, spending a lot of time perusing the WebHostingTalk forums. About a day passed and I received an e-mail message (the fiust time I didn’t actually have to contact them about my site being down) which said they would need 12 more hours and I could check their support desk site for updates. At that point, it was at 79%.

More than 24 hours later, the status is only at 87%. In the meantime, I settled on trying Steadfast hosting which had a lot of praise and uses the same control panel. I switched over DNS info and my domain propogated pretty quickly.

I was going to just start with a fresh install of WordPress but recalled I had a backup of the WordPress database in my e-mail so I uploaded -most- of my posts. However, about a month of posts are missing and there are some formatting issues. Hopefully I’ll have that all squared away tonight and then all I need to do is wait for my files to be accessible, grab them and cancel hosting with my previous host.

Advertising?

Blogger has let through a lot of spam in the comments lately. It’s a shame. The spammers seems to have decided that e-mail alone isn’t good enough so they’re leaving comments as well. One such comment, which may have been legitimate was regarding blog sponsorship (IE blog advertisement). While I have been investigating different services for blog sponsorship, it is not my intent to use these services in this, my personal blog.

However, with that said, you may notice some Amazon links here and there. I have previously linked to Amazon detail pages for items I have reviewed or discussed and I have simply began using the Amazon Associates program for the links I have and will post. The only major change you will notice, most likely, is a product preview when you mouse over the links.

Rest assured that you can keep avoiding my blog only because you don’t like it and not because I use ads. -w-

Techno-What?/A Fool Such As I

I began writing this entry with the intent to tell you all that I will be writing a few blog posts in the future which build on an article already on this site: Blog 101. Except, that article isn’t on this site. It’s one of those things I’ve been procrastinating about!

Expect that soon! Then, can you also expect some blog posts (which I will eventually add to the site as articles) which discuss advanced Blogging tools such as feeds, social networking and ping/trackback.

In that vein, I figured I better claim my blog at Technorati which I will now do. Go ahead and step over to my Technorati Profile (which I probably won’t ever use).

Speaking of my site, I added some Valentines Day icons for use on Livejournal here.

Also, a little anecdote from my life. I woke at 8:16 this morning, to the sound of the alarm, and hit snooze while rolling over to cuddle Ryan for a few moments as I usually do. Shortly after, I receive a phone call from work, the cashier leader asking me why I wasn’t already there working harvest?

It turns out I had looked at the schedule wrong! I swear I worked lunch (what I was getting up for) at 10:30 but, NO! I was supposed to be in a 7. E’gads. We’ll see what type of trouble I am in now.

Okay, forgive me all. I’ve spent about the past hour fine tuning a template that i’m not even sure I like, however I understand blogger now. It’s not nearly as bad as I’d thought it would be. For this, I suppose i’m grateful. -sl* Sleep calls, I’ll finish the tweaking tomorrow.

And I really to find a font that I like. -ggls*
