Masturbation

Masturbation is the act of stimulating one’s genitals (and other body parts, especially nipples) or the genitals of another by manual means, generally to achieve orgasm. While masturbation can refer to stimulation of someone else’s genitals as in mutual masturbation, when two or more people stimulate eachother sexually, this page will focus on solitary masturbation.

Masturbation is an act in which many partake but not all of those who participate will admit to this habit. This is, probably, most due to the fact that masturbation has been and is still seen as taboo. Some of the reasons for this belief are:

  • Religions which teach that sex is only for procreation see masturbation as the opposite of creating life and label is sinful
  • St. Augustine taught that sex for any reason other than procreation was a lustful act which led to sin, thus masturbation was sinful as well.
  • St. Thomas Aquinas wrote that masturbation was against nature and reason or an “unnatural vice” worse than rape.
  • A Swiss physician name Tissot argued that loss of semen would reduce strength, reason and memory and cause blurred vision, mental disorders and arthritis along with other physical maladies.
  • Masturbation has been frowned upon in times and cultures were open sexuality and sexual behaviour was shunned.

However, masturbation has many of the same benefits of sex and more – relieving depression/elevating mood, helps insomnia, lessens menstrual cramps, stimulates the immune system, improves orgasms, sexual exploration, etc – without as many of the risks – pregnancy, STI’s – and doesnt require a partner or any aids. Masturbation with sharp/blunt objects or too roughly can cause physical injury, however this can be avoided by using common sense. not Additionally, masturbation can help preserve virginity or reduce the amount of partners one has.

In modern times, most involved with science and medicine accept masturbation as normal, healthy, and a natural part of development and sexual experimentation.

The point of al this, of course, it to explain that masturbation is both a pleasurable and normal activity in which one can participate whether involved in a relationship or single. Even if you are not sexually involved, you can still experiment (healthily) with masturbation and be sexually satisfied by this means.

While almost all males masturbate with nothing more than their hands, many females use sex toys to achieve orgasm. Sex toys are designed for both males and females and couples and come in all shapes and sizes to fit your sexual needs and desires.
