Activities
There are numerous activities on the internet, even excluding the different activities which have already been explained. Some of these activities include quizzes, tests and memes, family trees and radio although there are numerous things which one can do online and I could never hope to compile a complete list. I won’t go in depth about all these subjects because there are already numerous sites which list things to do on the internet but I will focus on a few areas which are especially entertaining.
Quizzes – also known as tests or memes – are fun little tests where you fill out answers which generate a result, usually with an image, that tell you with which character, person, object, idea et cetera you most identify or “are.” These are for entertainment only, usually. Although there are many websites or networks solely devoted to quizzes, you can find individual quizzes on many websites like mine by following quiz results others have posted or searching for a specific quiz.
Some quiz network sites are:
- MemeGen
- Blog Quiz
- Quiz Meme
- Go Quiz
- Select Smart
- All The Tests
- Trivia Quizzes
- Quiz Farm
- Blog Things
- My Yearbook Quizzes
- Quiz Hub
- Cool Quiz
- Quizilla
Family trees are a common activity online not only because you can use the internet for a more efficient search of current family members, legal documents and ancestors but also because many sites provide services for creating, showing and maintaining your family tree – often for free.
Below is a list of sites which provide these services:
- Tribal Pages
- Geneaology.com
- Ancestry.com
- Family Tree Maker
- Family Search
- Family Tree Searcher
- Ellis Island Records
- Family Tree Resources
- Genes Reunited
- Roots Web
Internet radio is a great feature which allows you to listen to your favourite music from your computer as your main activity or in the background. There is a wide variety of stations which cater to many musicial tastes so it shouldn’t be difficult to find a radio station to your liking. You can even find internet broadcasts of your favourite local (or not-so-local) radio stations.
Below is a list of websites which host or provide links to radio stations and their descriptions.
- Shoutcast
- There are many independently owned and amateur radio stations which are hosted on different servers. A list of some of these types of radio stations can be found here and although it is a website run by Winamp, you do not necessarily need the Winamp software to listen in.
- Live Radio
- You can search for live broadcasts of your favourite local stations at Live Radio.
- Live365
- A browser based radio network which plays stations in its own music player.
- Launchcast
- Yahoo’s radio station network which plays in Yahoo Messenger.
These sites are made entirely for entertainment on the internet or contian lists of things to do for entertainment.
