Tidying

I’ve been doing some clean up ’round these parts. I’ve deleted a couple dozen pages and even more files that were unnecessary. I’m going to be consolidating some sections and re-organizing some of the content to highlight the focus of this site. As much as it is my blog, I have also always wanted it to be a resource and I’ve had some dated and unnecessary clutter that covered up some of the usefulness of the site. I’ve held on to some stuff for too long, mostly because it’s hard for me to let go of things I’ve worked so hard on, but what I want the site to be now isn’t the same as what it was and I’m excited to redefine it a bit.

There’s been some minor modifications to some pages. A typo here, a broken link there. I’ve gone through many of the pages of the site in the process and I’ve rediscovered things I’ve forgotten and perhaps a little bit about myself. I recently raided the Livejournal icons pages to upload a new avatar to Daydreamz, for example.

Anyway, it’s not exciting or anything but it feels good to dive back behind the scenes.

Well, not to you, dear reader. “Sorry” to the folks who might want to purchase advertising on this here site. You see, I won’t do it. It’s that simple. I have in the past put up one or two paid blog posts and I felt awful about it, even when paid blogging was my only source of income. Now that I have other income, I have absolutely no need to sell any sort of advertising on this site. I do some of that on Reviews by Cole. Really, advertising and paid blogging were a heavy focus of the blog. It has since shifted, ever so slightly, toward sponsored reviews and giveaways but the focus of this site, of this blog, has always been personal.

I come here to tell you how I feel, what I’m doing, what I’m thinking, where I’m at with life. Perhaps I have no one else to talk to, perhaps I just need to get something out. I put that here. It’s not always happy, it’s not always deep and it may not interest everyone but it’s always me. And you come here, hopefully, to connect with me not necessarily because of the content of the site but because of who is bringing you that content. As the official content bring (TM) of Her Realm, I just don’t feel like selling advertising will ever connect me with my readers, even if it gives me extra spending money, even if the advertising would be subtle and will be customized to fit my blog.

If you’re looking at this site and wondering if you might place a link, you can head to my other blog or someone else’s entirely. There are many bloggers who are selling advertising next to their life stories and more power to them. It’s just not my thing. Sorry (but not really).

P.S. If I tell you “No” and you persist, you’re a fucking douchebag.

I’ve been making tons of shop items and banners lately. I don’t know why but I made this batch for Her Realm and The Scrolls (the blog). I haven’t added them to the site pages yet but feel free to use them to link me!

My mind is a swirling vortex (although, not of win) but much less is actually happening in my life. I haven’t managed to get much done as my current situation makes it hard to concentrate and occasionally just a little too depressed to work up the motivation to do things. Like blog. Although I put up almost all of the content, now, including the guess and win pages with a little ingenuity. I hope you enjoy playing! I even installed a new poll plugin but my questions suck. Suggestions are welcome!

I’m not sure if I will reinstate the site contest I had before. It only had limited success and I never actually made the winner anything for it. I’m bad, I know. I like the idea, though, and this corner of the internet hasn’t held any contests like that recently. We’ll see. I may also be working on a new layout. Maybe. Sorta.

I’ve finished putting up the tutorials again! There are no new ones; although I did update some coding, grammar and a few lines for clarity. Right now, you cannot access “Additional CSS” (under Web) or “Autosave and Workspace” (under Paint Shop Pro). I will get to those as soon as possible.

Before, I had more than a handful of surveys on Her Realm. I just really liked to hear what people think but I know they’re no longer the rage so I’ve cut it down to one survey to take upon exit of the site. I guess since Thanksgiving has come and gone and it is almost December. I can begrudgingly allow the world to become festive. Not that I mind festiveness, I just think there’s an appropriate time to get into the Christmas spirit and it’s not before Thanksgiving or Halloween for Christ’s sake. Seriously. Pisses me off. But because I do enjoy the holidays and do have some spirit, I have nearly completed the Livejournal icons section which boasts mostly Christmassy icons for your use. Enjoy.
