Tech Lust: Nintendo DSi
February 26th, 2009 Posted 7:39 am
I’m not sure if this will be a regular feature but I am definitely in love lust with the Nintendo DSi – the third version of the Nintendo DS. Featuring 2 cameras, an SD port and 12% smaller than the DS Lite, this handheld console is freaking sexy! I definitely think Nintendo needs to focus on the DS; these new improvements make me wonder if the DS will one day be able to compare to stand alone game consoles.
Anyway, it’s been out in Japan since last year and officially releases in the states in April. Wal-mart is already advertising it at $169 and Amazon has both Black Matte and Blue Matte versions available on April 5th from $169.99. Because I haven’t even had my DS Lite 2 years and it was my anniversary present, I probably won’t get a DSi anytime soon but I will still drool over it! The only thing I’m not a fan of is the lack of GBA port; however, if I could find ROMs for all my GBA games and put ‘em on an SD card, it’s not really an issue.
Wouldn’t you know

Monday was a very weird day. It started off not too bad with some episodes of Stargate and then Ryan received a call that one his troops has fucked up so he jumped in the shower and ran to base after being screamed on the phone. Of course, it wasn’t his troop. It was someone else with the same name who is now his troop and Ryan basically wasted a trip. Bah!
We spent the day doing a little shopping, including brand new bras for me, and grabbed dinner at the mall and ended up with a trip to Wal-mart for some necessities. We returned to a hot apartment as our electricity had partially shut off while we were gone and I hopped on the phone with the answering service who told us to check the breaker box, which we did, and flip the switches for the living room (where the electricity had been off) which we couldn’t find. OF course, after I hung up Ryan found the switch and I had to call them back to say never mind.
If only it ended there. I went to turn on my computer to find that it didn’t work and assumed it was the power supply because I’ve had the same problem before. Unfortunately it was too late to call anyone so I waited until yesterday where I made like 4 calls to Best Buy before someone answered and gave me a ridiculous price. We also talked to someone else who quoted a better rate but wouldn’t have been able to do it the same day so we went a little out of our way to a great shop that was sort of hidden away and were greeted by an extremely helpful chap who even gave us some free service. We took the time to browse their shop as well which had a variety of used and new computers and accessories for some damned good prices so Ryan is now considering getting a laptop from there.
Although it all turned out okay, it was a harrowing experience. I was very worried of having additional damage done to the computer so I’m very grateful that it wasn’t. Of course, I am not impressed with our electricity which has already gone out twice since we moved in. Ick.

Then other day Ryan and I were at Target and we saw a silver limousine in the lot parked across several spots which I don’t think were legal spots to begin with. Of course, as law abiding citizens we were affronted. LOL I also thought that the colour was a bit horrendous but I guess that’s not my choice, either.
We were discussing who would bring their limo to Target and he wondered why a rich person would even shop at Target but I had another train of thought. While limos aren’t generally the type of ride “Joe Six Pack” usually sports, he may just rent it out for a special occasion. I know homecoming and prom are big limo events but it’s the wrong timing for that so perhaps it was a wedding? That seems a bit more reasonable to me. But, who knows, maybe Donald Trump loves Target? d=
I’ve only been in a limo once when I was in middle school. We were selling magazines and I sold enough to get a limo ride and pizza for lunch. Haha! I believe it was a typical white limo, nothing like an Escalade limo New York or anything. It was pretty cool but I hope to add at least one more limo ride to my life before I die, and hopefully for a much cooler reason.
Have you ever been in a limo?
Gotta Shop Around

And boy, have I (we) been shopping. Definitely related to my previous Weekly WrapUp post but money has been a priority lately.
First it was heading to about 8 car places from large, well known dealerships to tiny corner lots until finding the car that suited us best which wound up being a brand we had never considered (Suzuki) and a model of which I’d never heard (Forenza); funny how things happen.
Next it was visiting dozens of apartment complexes from the run-down and ghetto variety that we simply drove on by to the wonderfully new, large and homey on which we finally settled. That application is in and, assuming we get it, I will be able to move on September 12.
Of course, with the move comes the fact that most of our Earthly possessions are somewhere in the world, hopefully making their way to us and we need to add a bedroom set which will be another large chunk of money. I think we’ll be doing that sometime next week to take advantage of a pre-Labor Day sale and then pay off our mattresses as well.
And while females are said to love spending money, I have certainly seen more apartments than I can specifically recall, talked to more pushy salesmen and browsed more potential furniture than I ever care to do again. Luckily, all these purchases should last us for years so I won’t have to!
To end with some good news, I received my school books today, from MATC, and at the end of this month I will officially be a college student, if only online. I really wanted to make that happen this fall and it is happening. I’m happy to finally be starting school.
In May, when many of the people with whom I attended high school graduated, I really felt horrible. I had planned to take 1 year off to work and here I was, 4 years later, still not back in school. It has really been weighing on my mind heavily and I can finally know that I’m taking a step forward, to better my future, and not fear that I’ll never go to school. So yay for me!
Weekly WrapUp

Time for another Weekly Wrapup, this time about money.
In the past week, have you spent more or less than usual? Definitely more but moving will do that to you.
What was your biggest purchase? What made you decide to buy it? We bought a car for functional reasons.
Do you typically mull over purchases or are you an impulse buyer?I’m more likely to take my time deciding if I don’t really need it. I think about it until I can’t stand it anymore.
Did you enjoy the shopping you do or do you prefer to get in and out quickly? Shopping can be enjoyable but isn’t always. Shopping with the right people makes it better.
I’m Here
June 30th, 2008 Posted 4:04 am
It’s been a while, huh?
I haven’t been up to much, just haven’t been blogging here as frequently as I could and, probably, should be.
So what’s going on, hmm? Furniture window-shopping via the internet. Our entire bedroom set it loaner so, when we move, we’ll need to purchase that. Also coming out of our (or should I say “his”) wallet will be a coffee table and/or set, bookcase(s) and a desk for the computer Ryan wants. Soo, I’ve been checking out local stores and found something I really like but know I can’t get my heart set on it yet. -crosses fingers that I can have it though- This is all adding up to a lot of money, though!
We’ve been looking for cards and kind of disagrees. As a woman, I want something sturdy and practical and as a man boy, Ryan wants something flashy. We finally settled on the Hyundai Elantra and have been pricing them on CraigsList and Ebay motors for a used one. However, considering the recent oil discussions and gas prices, I thought it would be interesting to check our hybrid cars and the Saturn Aura and Toyota Prius both seem do-able. It all depends on price and availability, though. We’ll definitely have to take what we can find.
I’ve been frequently blogging over at Reviews by Cole and just gave it a little facelift – nothing too fancy; I just switched the header image and colours. I’ve been doing some opportunities for PayU2Blog - so far so good.
I’m also still considering school for the fall – just a couple of classes online. Unfortunately, I’m not sure how much I really want to go into funeral service which really is throwing me for a loop. I mean, what do I want to do with my life?!
We saw Indiana Jones tonight which was decent – not horrible but not great. It certainly was long! I wasn’t very fond of Shia’s character and I don’t really think he fit the role (which was weak to begin with) very well. Alas, Spielberg doesn’t care what I think!
PS, if you’re viewing this on LiveJournal, please bare with me. I’m still working out the kinks!

You put your left foot in
February 11th, 2008 Posted 12:25 am
This is not a post about the Hokey Pokey, I swear. It’s actually a post about socks!
I like socks; they keep my feet warm and dry. I don’t just like any socks. I’m not much for toe socks or tall socks (except for the occasional pair of knee-highs which work well under boots) and would certainly never wear a pair of slouching socks. I like quarter socks (taller than ankle but not as long as crew) just any quarter sock: long quarter socks! Most are too short. I don’t like my ankles to be cold.
I like my quarter socks to be white. All white. No colours. No logos or words. None of the coloured toe or heel crap. I want white quarter sucks.
Fluffy, why quarter socks.
Actually, this doesn’t sound like that much of a desire, does it? It sounds like what the basic sock should be. Except, I haven’t been able to find socks like these for years. I had to resort to socks with words, too-low socks, and socks that wouldn’t know fluffy if it knocked them along side their heads (which fluffy cannot do and socks do not have, or so I am told)!
I’ve searched all over. Typical stores like Wal-mart, the BX, online mass sellers like Amazon, Japanese stores like The Mighty Soxer and specialty stores like Sock Dreams and even Ebay – all to no avail.
I settled for some of the socks-that-don’t-know-fluffy for a while until.. The other day, while grocery shopping for things like bread and chicken and milk but most certainly not socks, I found it! The holy grail of socks. Long quarter, white and fluffy, an afterthought of the grocery store. And there they were, waiting for me. Now, they are mine.
As you can imagine, if finding the perfect sock is this hard for me, how difficult must it be for me to shop for things of more consequence?
