Tech Lust: Nokia N8

April 30th, 2010 Posted 7:45 pm

So, the other day Nokia announced an upcoming touch screen phone called the N8. Twitter, like the rest of the internet, exploded which chatter and I caught a whiff only to fall in love. I mean, I’ve had my phone almost two years now. I’ve been curios about all those fancy new gadgets but phones don’t really catch my interest.

Except the N8 did. I think it could be that the design is similar-ish to my phone, a Nokia model which is no longer current. They’re both slim, with handy “external” buttons and a slightly feminine design.

But the N8 blows my phone out of the water with its new Symbian technology, 12MP camera, 720p resolution and HDMI connections. I mean, it’s pretty much an entire media solution unto itself. But if you’re not into movies and music, it also integrates social networking options like Twitter and Facebook.

Plus, it’s got an app store, which other Nokia phones can use but I suspect the Ovi store will definitely rise in popularity and usefulness with the N8. Nokia says the app store will provide access to Web TV channels and lists NatGeo and CNN as examples (although, I couldn’t find a listing in the current store).

It’s not out until the third quarter of this year and I don’t know yet who will be carrying it but this might be one gadget I have to have.

Tech Lust: Alienware Laptops

alienwarelaptop Alienware, a division of Dell, has long been known for making gaming computers but one thing they have also been consistent with is producing computers which are visually appealing. When it comes to awesome aesthetics, I am so there! Which is why all of Alienware laptops are equally awesome; there’s 2 right now: m15x and m17x. They’re capable machines with attractive styles and backlit keyboards which make me say “Ooh.” (It’s also great for typing on those dark and stormy nights). If that doesn’t catch your eye, then perhaps the webcam, facial recognition software or engraved nameplate on the bottom (just to name a few things) will. They’re not so friendly to the pocketbook, of course, which is why I lust over them instead of buy them.

But not too much fun..

Life sent me a message toward the end of last week about how I can’t enjoy myself too much or even just a little and BAM! Life bitch smacked me with a cold I am on day 4 of 5 of and still not over. I’m better but man, days 2 and 3 were hell. At least my head is clearer and, yay, I can sort of taste and smell stuff now, but I’m ready to be over this.

On the good news front, we bought a pair of book shelves from Office Depot yesterday and they will be delivered tomorrow so all of our books and DVDs will have a home. Yay! Now to make Ryan buy me these book ends! Well, a girl can dream, can’t she? ;)

Tech Lust: Red Laptops

I don’t really need a laptop. I plan on using my computer for a while, yet, and memory will extend its life without being as costly as a laptop. Still, I can drool over pretty electronics, can’t I? And the laptops that are the most droolworthy are red! Initially, I was going to blog about HP’s new ProBooks which are targeted for small businesses and super sleek but HP’s site says nothing about red ones. Luckily, I found a site which blogs only about red laptops. Pretty cool? So, feast your eyes on the beauties on the Red Laptop blog – I want them all.

Tech Lust: Nintendo DSi

Nintendo DSiI’m not sure if this will be a regular feature but I am definitely in love lust with the Nintendo DSi – the third version of the Nintendo DS. Featuring 2 cameras, an SD port and 12% smaller than the DS Lite, this handheld console is freaking sexy! I definitely think Nintendo needs to focus on the DS; these new improvements make me wonder if the DS will one day be able to compare to stand alone game consoles.

Anyway, it’s been out in Japan since last year and officially releases in the states in April. Wal-mart is already advertising it at $169 and Amazon has both Black Matte and Blue Matte versions available on April 5th from $169.99. Because I haven’t even had my DS Lite 2 years and it was my anniversary present, I probably won’t get a DSi anytime soon but I will still drool over it! The only thing I’m not a fan of is the lack of GBA port; however, if I could find ROMs for all my GBA games and put ‘em on an SD card, it’s not really an issue.

Monday was a very weird day. It started off not too bad with some episodes of Stargate and then Ryan received a call that one his troops has fucked up so he jumped in the shower and ran to base after being screamed on the phone. Of course, it wasn’t his troop. It was someone else with the same name who is now his troop and Ryan basically wasted a trip. Bah!

We spent the day doing a little shopping, including brand new bras for me, and grabbed dinner at the mall and ended up with a trip to Wal-mart for some necessities. We returned to a hot apartment as our electricity had partially shut off while we were gone and I hopped on the phone with the answering service who told us to check the breaker box, which we did, and flip the switches for the living room (where the electricity had been off) which we couldn’t find. OF course, after I hung up Ryan found the switch and I had to call them back to say never mind.

If only it ended there. I went to turn on my computer to find that it didn’t work and assumed it was the power supply because I’ve had the same problem before. Unfortunately it was too late to call anyone so I waited until yesterday where I made like 4 calls to Best Buy before someone answered and gave me a ridiculous price. We also talked to someone else who quoted a better rate but wouldn’t have been able to do it the same day so we went a little out of our way to a great shop that was sort of hidden away and were greeted by an extremely helpful chap who even gave us some free service. We took the time to browse their shop as well which had a variety of used and new computers and accessories for some damned good prices so Ryan is now considering getting a laptop from there.

Although it all turned out okay, it was a harrowing experience. I was very worried of having additional damage done to the computer so I’m very grateful that it wasn’t. Of course, I am not impressed with our electricity which has already gone out twice since we moved in. Ick.

Then other day Ryan and I were at Target and we saw a silver limousine in the lot parked across several spots which I don’t think were legal spots to begin with. Of course, as law abiding citizens we were affronted. LOL I also thought that the colour was a bit horrendous but I guess that’s not my choice, either.

We were discussing who would bring their limo to Target and he wondered why a rich person would even shop at Target but I had another train of thought. While limos aren’t generally the type of ride “Joe Six Pack” usually sports, he may just rent it out for a special occasion. I know homecoming and prom are big limo events but it’s the wrong timing for that so perhaps it was a wedding? That seems a bit more reasonable to me. But, who knows, maybe Donald Trump loves Target? d=

I’ve only been in a limo once when I was in middle school. We were selling magazines and I sold enough to get a limo ride and pizza for lunch. Haha! I believe it was a typical white limo, nothing like an Escalade limo New York or anything. It was pretty cool but I hope to add at least one more limo ride to my life before I die, and hopefully for a much cooler reason.

Have you ever been in a limo?
