The Girl With a Fire
April 4th, 2012 Posted 3:52 am
I bought myself a Kindle Fire. When I realized that taxes weren’t going to be as much as I thought, I decided I needed to treat myself. I rarely do. I’m always trying to save for something that doesn’t exist and fretting about every dollar, but once I made the decision to get a Kindle Fire, there was no going back. I loved it in the store, and it far surpassed the Nook Tablet, which was the only other option I was really considering.
I’ve already gotten so much use out of it. I’ve acquired over 20 books, I’ve borrowed two from Amazon and I’ve used my free Prime membership to purchase from the store. Some apps, like Angry Birds Space, just work so much better on the screen. I’m finding the screen super easy on the eyes and the thin profile is just so preferable to actual books, especially clunky hardcover ones. In fact, I think my Kindle has made me realize that I hate physical books. Le gasp, I know.
I just want to read and read and read and read.

I Want a Kite
March 22nd, 2011 Posted 11:43 pm
I’ve never gone kite flying so I decided that this would be the year. I will buy a fancy kite or a kite that strikes my fancy and head to park on a windy day and try–or fail–to fly a kite. It doesn’t matter. Meaning is in the journey and all that. So here I am browsing the Internet for kites, figuring I’d find some pretty diamond one but, no, they all blow my damned mind!

Tech Lust: Nokia N8
April 30th, 2010 Posted 7:45 pm
So, the other day Nokia announced an upcoming touch screen phone called the N8. Twitter, like the rest of the internet, exploded which chatter and I caught a whiff only to fall in love. I mean, I’ve had my phone almost two years now. I’ve been curios about all those fancy new gadgets but phones don’t really catch my interest.
Except the N8 did. I think it could be that the design is similar-ish to my phone, a Nokia model which is no longer current. They’re both slim, with handy “external” buttons and a slightly feminine design.
But the N8 blows my phone out of the water with its new Symbian technology, 12MP camera, 720p resolution and HDMI connections. I mean, it’s pretty much an entire media solution unto itself. But if you’re not into movies and music, it also integrates social networking options like Twitter and Facebook.
Plus, it’s got an app store, which other Nokia phones can use but I suspect the Ovi store will definitely rise in popularity and usefulness with the N8. Nokia says the app store will provide access to Web TV channels and lists NatGeo and CNN as examples (although, I couldn’t find a listing in the current store).
It’s not out until the third quarter of this year and I don’t know yet who will be carrying it but this might be one gadget I have to have.

Tech Lust: Alienware Laptops
November 25th, 2009 Posted 11:59 pm
Alienware, a division of Dell, has long been known for making gaming computers but one thing they have also been consistent with is producing computers which are visually appealing. When it comes to awesome aesthetics, I am so there! Which is why all of Alienware laptops are equally awesome; there’s 2 right now: m15x and m17x. They’re capable machines with attractive styles and backlit keyboards which make me say “Ooh.” (It’s also great for typing on those dark and stormy nights). If that doesn’t catch your eye, then perhaps the webcam, facial recognition software or engraved nameplate on the bottom (just to name a few things) will. They’re not so friendly to the pocketbook, of course, which is why I lust over them instead of buy them.
But not too much fun..

Life sent me a message toward the end of last week about how I can’t enjoy myself too much or even just a little and BAM! Life bitch smacked me with a cold I am on day 4 of 5 of and still not over. I’m better but man, days 2 and 3 were hell. At least my head is clearer and, yay, I can sort of taste and smell stuff now, but I’m ready to be over this.
On the good news front, we bought a pair of book shelves from Office Depot yesterday and they will be delivered tomorrow so all of our books and DVDs will have a home. Yay! Now to make Ryan buy me these book ends! Well, a girl can dream, can’t she? ;)

Tech Lust: Red Laptops
June 6th, 2009 Posted 11:52 pm
I don’t really need a laptop. I plan on using my computer for a while, yet, and memory will extend its life without being as costly as a laptop. Still, I can drool over pretty electronics, can’t I? And the laptops that are the most droolworthy are red! Initially, I was going to blog about HP’s new ProBooks which are targeted for small businesses and super sleek but HP’s site says nothing about red ones. Luckily, I found a site which blogs only about red laptops. Pretty cool? So, feast your eyes on the beauties on the Red Laptop blog – I want them all.
