Phantom and Goliath

Well, Puck had a name change to Goliath because I just wasn’t sure Puck fit. I am not totally feeling Goliath yet, either so I just call him Little One. I wasn’t so sure about him at first, mostly because it was a quick decision and Ryan picked him out – funny that the non-cat person picked out both of our cats. But Goliath has grown on me.

I think first he liked Phantom more and Phantom wasn’t really sure. They both were very similar when we got them, very courageous and fearless. They did/do a lot of silly things which made them adorable and they both had a lot of personality.

We took Goliath home right away and they’re an adorable pair. He’s only about 3 months old which is the same age we got Phantom and, although he’s only a few months older, he seems so big in comparison! So Phantom has become my big boy, even though he’s still just a kitten himself.

They fought a bit the first night and now it’s more playful and settled down. Phantom certainly seems to have let up on more of his playful characteristics and I hope it’s only temporary. He was definitely a little indifferent toward us but now seems to be coming back around to his old self.

We had really been considering a seocnd cat so we would have one to balance out Phantom. We hoped a playmate would make him stay out of trouble (the tree, trash, counter tops, so on and so forth) a well as give him someone else to pick on. He’s only bitten me once since we got Goliath and that was because I intervened when they were fighting.

On the other hand, having another kitten means going through all the same things we did with Phantom. The goods new is that Goliath seems to listen a bit more and not be as naturally wild so I don’t think we will have a hard of time with it. Of course, he does like to walk over the laptop quite a bit, much to Ryan’s dismay. d=

I tihnk I am coming down with something. Ryan came back (and is still) sick from Nevada and he must have given me whatever it is. MY throat has felt really strange the last couple days. It doesn’t quite hurt but it’s sensitive, like I ate something which scratched it (but I didn’t). My nose has also been runny and we’re almost out of tissues. Oh noes!

How did you all make out for Christmas?

I Do Stuff

Life since we moved to San Antonio has been quiet. Well, that’s not looking at the whole story. Life since I’ve lived with Ryan has been quiet. This is not always a bad thing, although sometimes it does get lonely. I certainly miss my friends and family. So, when I was in Wausau, I made sure to see them and I even got to get out of the house a few times.

For example, Wendy I took Samantha with Robyn and Ashley and their little cousin to see the Central Wisconsin Children’s Theatre production of Willy Wonka which was super cute and a lot of fun.

I went bowling with Ashe, Sami and Sami’s friends which was a hoot. Anyone want to know how to get 6 people into a Saturn Ion?!

I went out to drink with Fernie and her boyfriend, ran into an old friend from school and finished off the night with Wendy, Sav and Sav’s boyfriend at a new bar downtown.

I played Monopoly until 3 in the morning with Ashe and her friends, got an industrial piercing in my left ear and had my hair cut, coloured and highlighted.

I intended to relax after my little break and have done so, for the most part. Today I went with my mother and sister in law to movie and a dinner. We saw Four Christmases which was much better than expected.

So, there! I do stuff!

Here I Am

Back home. I awoke yesterday long before the sun would be up after too few hours of sleep. Not to mention late. I had enough time to hop in the shower, pack up the rest of my things and we were off to the airport. Samantha’s coat and snow pants were pulled over her fuzzy Spongebob pajamas and during the course of the ride, she dozed a bit and held onto my arm the whole time.

It was only 9 days and it went amazingly fast. On the other hand, most of those days Samantha did not have school and she was plastered to my side. I felt suffocated by the time I left. Still, seeing the tears on her pudgy little face in the airport made me cry as well.

On the other hand, I had an adorable little kitty to go home to and he’d been on his own – for the most part – a couple of days since Ryan left. I missed my kitty terribly yet part of me wondered why I should go home when no one would be there.

I felt more at home with the colder weather and it snowed a bit the last few days. It definitely felt more like winter weather and it didn’t seem so strange to hear Christmas music. Nevertheless, it was cold and I knew the weather in San Antonio would be much more enjoyable.

I enjoyed seeing almost all of my family and friends, some of whom I had not seen for years. We hung out and went out and I got to know a few new people as well. However, my time there was so packed with acitivities that I felt really tense by the time I needed to leave.

I was exhausted and slept a bit on the plane back. Both physically and emotionally, I was ready to return home. But after I entered the door, it wasn’t long before I was heading back out to check the mail, open packages and return to unpack my bags. I checked e-mail and completed tasks that had been put on the back burner for over a week. All in all, I didn’t head to sleep until after midnight – over 7 hours after I had headed home.

And I suppose the best way to sum up my return home is that I was conflicted. It was bittersweet, after all.

Wouldn’t you know

Monday was a very weird day. It started off not too bad with some episodes of Stargate and then Ryan received a call that one his troops has fucked up so he jumped in the shower and ran to base after being screamed on the phone. Of course, it wasn’t his troop. It was someone else with the same name who is now his troop and Ryan basically wasted a trip. Bah!

We spent the day doing a little shopping, including brand new bras for me, and grabbed dinner at the mall and ended up with a trip to Wal-mart for some necessities. We returned to a hot apartment as our electricity had partially shut off while we were gone and I hopped on the phone with the answering service who told us to check the breaker box, which we did, and flip the switches for the living room (where the electricity had been off) which we couldn’t find. OF course, after I hung up Ryan found the switch and I had to call them back to say never mind.

If only it ended there. I went to turn on my computer to find that it didn’t work and assumed it was the power supply because I’ve had the same problem before. Unfortunately it was too late to call anyone so I waited until yesterday where I made like 4 calls to Best Buy before someone answered and gave me a ridiculous price. We also talked to someone else who quoted a better rate but wouldn’t have been able to do it the same day so we went a little out of our way to a great shop that was sort of hidden away and were greeted by an extremely helpful chap who even gave us some free service. We took the time to browse their shop as well which had a variety of used and new computers and accessories for some damned good prices so Ryan is now considering getting a laptop from there.

Although it all turned out okay, it was a harrowing experience. I was very worried of having additional damage done to the computer so I’m very grateful that it wasn’t. Of course, I am not impressed with our electricity which has already gone out twice since we moved in. Ick.

When I Grow Up

I’ve noticed myself distancing from the idea of arguing and fighting. Although always rebellious and still argumentative in the middle of a heated argument, I am doing more to prevent the arguing from even taking place – or trying, at least.

It’s not perfect but it’s a change that I guess occurred gradually and I just now realized it. It’s certainly a positive change but one that has been difficult, at best, sometimes especially considering how much I tend to argue reflexively. Sometimes I still find myself frustrated because I am caught up in the middle of an argument but cannot seem to stop, thus only becoming more frustrated.

Still, it’s a step in the right direction.

The Ignorant and the Blind

Tonight we saw Blindness which was interesting and perhaps not as action packed as the trailers made it out to be. However, it was very intellectual and not a bad movie at all.

Ryan and I also had dinner with his mother at a nice Italian place with very good food and some deluxe pizzas. While we were dining, we left Phantom at Ryan’s parents where we had taken him over to show him off and introduce him to the dog, Misty. Although they are not best friends yet, it went better than expected.

We stopped first at Petsmart to have them trim Phantom’s nails where the adoption lady told us that he was one of two burn kitties. Some teenagers had put some kind of acid on Phantom and his sibling and when the Humane Society got them, they were all burned. It really makes me so sad because he is such a beautiful kitty and it either takes someone so cruel or stupid to do something like that. Luckily, he’s completely healed and still a very happy cat but just the idea makes me so upset. Grr!

Besides playing a lot of Lego Batman and arguing with Ryan over how he plays, life has been quiet.
