Hmm

12/21/2006

I didn't mention when Crowfans popped back up on the internet scene though I was excited. I'd forgotten that I hadn't been an active member there for some time even before it closed, and why. I remember now.

I love The Crow - don't get me wrong - but I simply can't talk about it nonstop (like I once could d=). Neither can anyone else. It's got a cult following but it's a dead franchise, really, and there is only so much which can be said about a movie which had its hey-day almost 15 years ago.

Needless to say, countless forums which are related to the franchise remain empty whereas the "Random Thoughts" forum has flourished, or flourished as much as it can when the threads contained are word games and campy pseudo-RP. But because Random Thoughts is as much an afterthought as it it anything, it doesn't feel like the right place to really be starting serious threads. In fact, there is no place to start any thread worth reading that is not franchise related.

"I understand," you say "but it's Crowfans, is it not? Why should there be any forums for other topics?" Well, my friend, it actually hasn't been "Crowfans" since the retarded rename/revamp several years ago. Though the URL may say otherwise, the "name" of the forum is The Tides Of Sin. I've always hated that name because it sounds tacky and juvenile.

Unfortunately, that is also my opinion of many of the members. They're stuck in a place some 3 or 4 years ago, a place I have since departed. I've made many friends there, most with whom I've lost touched but a token few I still speak with, if not on a frequent basis but I've always had trouble connecting with people and I left because I could not connect.

My ideal Crowfans would be a forum where there would be a multitude of topics which were not Crow related and were worth the time it takes to read them. Not all serious, but certainly varied themes would grace the community in many new subforums of "Random Thoughts" which would become its own Misc forum.

It would be a place where people could discuss music, movies, love, relationships, friends and family, work and school, the internet, sex, recipes, religion, beauty, current events, and a multitude of other topics. It would be the end-all and be-all of forums, with a twist of The Crow. I suppose what I am describing is Lavish with a black and red theme, eh?

Crowfans currently is anything but my paradise and perhaps it was never meant to be. Perhaps I am just grasping at straws for a reason to stay when really there aren't any, or at least, none which are good enough. I scoff at the trivial (Nothing is trivial, right?) topics I see posted, post little myself and refrain from posting anything I would find worthy because it doesn't really fit in the one forum dedicated to life outside of The Crow. But it's hard to leave something which was once so much a part of my identity.
